How PAKO’s Customised Industrial Automation Solution allows Head Office in Europe to monitor pan India manufacturing units in real time.
A leading manufacturer of critical automotive components based in Europe having pan-India operations.
A leading manufacturer of critical automotive components based in Europe having pan-India operations.
The Scenario:
The manufacturer had LASER marking systems to mark all manufactured components with a unique identification. This allowed traceability back to batch and time of manufacture if there were problems encountered in the particular component on-field.
The LASER marking machines were set-up in a pristine environment, and were in perfect working condition. The head office, as part of their process efficiency improvement initiatives, decided to monitor all data generated by all manufacturing units for all parts being manufactured in real time. It was also decided that pre-emptive maintenance be implemented to reduce downtime.

It was also decided that pre-emptive maintenance be implemented to reduce downtime.
The Problem:
For newer marking machines this was not a problem as the required hardware and networking connectivity options were already incorporated in the machines themselves. However more than 50% of the installation base within India comprised of legacy machines with the parameters available on serial port, in multi-page format and in a non-english language.
The Solution:
With our long-standing experience in legacy communication protocols and expertise in implementation of custom hardware our solution allowed a secure networked display of all machine parameters with a flexible language translation mechanism, GSM/GPRS based preventive maintenance alarm generation and database integration for data analytics as well as remote access to authorized personnel. Our retrofitted solution thus enabled legacy marking machines to communicate real time data to HO improving efficiency and saving our client millions of dollars of sunk cost in new equipment investments.
